The Curst Sons unique take on American traditional music mixes roots genres with gutsy live shows
They play bluegrass, gospel and rockabilly as if their lives and loves depended on it - tuneful originals full of superior lyrics. Time Out
The Curst Sons, weave an idiosyncratic course between various traditional American music genres. Too Bluesy for Americana, too Country for Blues, too rock for the folkies and too smart for Cow Punk, their witty original compositions are hard to define as anything but The Curst Sons.
The Curst Sons have released 7 full length albums, their most recent New Signs and Old Visions in August 2024.
They have also released one 10” vinyl EP, a digital LIVE EP and their first single SHINE a SMILE was released January 2024, and its follow up In a Sea of Shame in May 2024.
They have been Runners up in the international Song Writing Competition (ISC), nominated for Best Alt Country Album in the Independent Music Awards and for Best Americana Act in the British Country Music Awards.
They wrote and recorded the soundtrack for a video piece by artist Jack Strange exhibited at Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in New York and supplied the soundtrack for the short film Horseboy Gets a Gun by Jane Couldrey. Their music can also be heard on the downhill skateboarding film Road Buzz.
They have played far too many pubs, clubs and festivals to remember, twice been Time Out magazine’s critic’s choice and recorded two live sessions for much missed Mark Lamarr show on BBC Radio 2.
In January 2019 the original trio of Willi Kerr ( Vocals and Percussion) Tim Dunkerley (Slide Guitar, Mandolin and vocals) and Dave "Specky" Simner (Banjo, Lead Guitar and Vocals) was joined by Scott Smith on Bass, Banjo, Harmonica and vocals.
Dave Simner is currently not well enough to play with the band.
They sometimes play as a 5 piece with drummer and another guitar/fiddle player.
The Curst Sons don't play Duelling Banjos so don't ask!
